Organized as a Air Defense Command (ADC) dispersal base on 16 Dec 1963, Walla Walla City-County Airport in Washington State was one of 17 bases activated across the Nation in a ADC program created  to disperse interceptors to protect the force from attack from Soviet attack. F-102 Delta Daggers from the 460 FIS (assigned to the 337 FG, Portland IAP, Oregon) and 64 FIS (assigned to the 57 FG, Paine Field, WA) rotated aircraft though Walla Walla under the command of Detachment 1, 337 Fighter Group.

On 25 September 1965 Detachment 2 - 325th Fighter Wing was established at Walla Walla City-County Airport replacing Detachment 1, 337 Fighter Group. Both of the 325th Fighter Wings F-106 squadrons (318th & 498th) supported the 325ths alert commitment at the airport. After the deactivation of the 325th Fighter Wing at McChord on 01 July 1968, the detachment was redesignated as Detachment 1, 318th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron.
