Major General Lee V. Greer is the commander of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center at McClellan Air Force Base, Calif. As commander of one of the five logistics centers, he is responsible for worldwide support of aircraft, space and missile equipment and communications-electronics-meteorological systems and equipment.

General Greer was born in 1935, in Valdosta, Ga., and graduated from Valdosta High School in 1953. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in industrial management in 1957, and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He earned a master of science degree in computer science from Texas A&M University in 1967. General Greer completed Squadron Officer School in 1963, Air Command and Staff College in 1973, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1974.

The general entered active duty in September 1957. After flying training at Spence Air Base, Ga., and Greenville Air Force Base, Miss., General Greer attended all-weather interceptor training in F-86L's at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. He served at Moody as an instructor pilot until August 1960, when he was assigned to Perrin Air Force Base, Texas, as an instructor pilot in F-86s and F-102s.

In June 1964 he began A-1E training at Hurlburt Field, Fla., and was subsequently assigned to Bien Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. While there General Greer served with the 1st Air Commando Squadron and the 602nd Air Commando Squadron. He flew 215 combat missions in A-1s.

When he returned from the Republic of Vietnam, General Greer entered Texas A&M University and following graduation in January 1967, he was assigned to the 328th Fighter Wing at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Mo., as a supply officer. In August 1968 the general transferred to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., where he served as chief of the Operations Analysis, Test and Evaluation Directorate. During this period he flew F-102s in support of operational tests with the 4750th Test Squadron.

General Greer was assigned to the 22nd North American Air Defense Command Region, Canadian Forces Base North Bay, Ontario, Canada, in August 1970. He served as chief of the Live Exercise Branch, Exercise and Evaluation Directorate.

Following completion of the accelerated Maintenance Officer Course at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill., General Greer commanded the 405th Field Maintenance Squadron at Clark Air Base, Philippines, from June 1973 to September 1974. Upon completion of this tour of duty, he returned to Tyndall Air Force Base as commander of the 4756th Avionics Maintenance Squadron. He served there until August 1976, when he became commander of the 318th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, McChord Air Force Base, Wash.

In August 1978 General Greer transferred to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and served as inspector general for the Ogden Air Logistics Center until March 1979, when he become chief, Resources Management Division, Directorate of Maintenance. From September 1980 to May 1982, the general was director of maintenance for the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base, Ga. He was subsequently named vice commander of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center at McClellan Air Force Base and in June 1983 he became vice commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. In April 1984 General Greer was assigned as deputy chief of staff for logistics management systems, Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, and commander, Logistics Management Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He assumed his present command in August 1985.

The general is a command pilot with 5,000 flying hours. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Combat Readiness Medal and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Silver Star.

He was promoted to major general Sept. 1, 1985, with date of rank Oct. 1, 1982. Major General Greer retired on October 1, 1988.
